I am looking for web sites or whatever info regarding vehicle storage.
QUESTION:After 13 winters (okay, 12 and a half) of driving my 88 Formula in the
snow, I had enough and bought a Jeep Wrangler. I always told my wife
that the Fiero in the snow was like driving a sled. I got fairly good at
it if I do say so myself, but I think I am getting wiser in my old age
because driving to work in a near-continuous contolled skid is not as
fun as it used to be. I have heard that Fieros do much better with
skinnier tires, but I never tried that.
Anyway, I am looking for web sites or whatever info regarding vehicle
storage. Is it best to put her up on blocks? Or should I start her up
every week or so and move a foot or so? That's basically what I'm
looking for. She is parked in the garage and I don't want to get her out
again until the snow is gone and some Spring rain has washed all the
salt off the streets. But I want to keep her in decent shape for when
this lousy weather finally clears.
ANSWER: Lobster is your garage heated or not. If not then wash the underside real
well and get under it to eliminate the rust and paint it. Heated just makes
it more comfortable to do the wash and rust removal. Once it is rust free
then worry about the rest of the car. Personally I would fill the tank
totally full, diconnect the battery. Stor ethe battery someplace warm not on
cement. Take the tires off and store them so they don't flat spot. When
firing it back up, change the oil and filter, change the plugs and cap and
rotor. Drive it about a hundred miles then fill with High octane gas then
change the fuel filter and air filter and pcv valve.
