Are thier any provisions
for storage of gear in Whitehorse & truck in Circle for 3 to 4 weeks.
QUESTION:if I leave my canoe & gear in Whitehorse YT, how long will it take me to drive
my truck to Circle City Ak & fly back to Whitehorse. Are thier any provisions
for storage of gear in Whitehorse & truck in Circle for 3 to 4 weeks.
ANSWER: You should plan on 16 - 18 hours of road time from Whitehorse to Circle. I
don't know where to leave gear in Whitehorse, but you might try calling the
store in Circle (Yukon Trading Post: 907-773-1217) and ask them if they will
watch your truck. The store changed owners in March, but whoever is running
it now should be connected well enough to the community to be able to answer
your questions. Circle can be an unfriendly place for vehicles left around
unattended, though I've left mine for a week at a time in the winter twice
recently without incident.
Don't forget that you need to check in with John Borg, the US Customs agent
in Eagle after crossing in from Canada. He can be reached at the Eagle Post
Office, 907-547-2211. The post office is only a five minute walk from the
landing directly in front of town. If you land at the "public boat landing" 1 1/2 miles above town, you'll have much farther to walk.
