Need ideas for toy storage
QUESTION:We bought a big bucket (I think it was 10 gallons?) at Wal-Mart. It is not
a garbage can but has rope handles on the side (the picture with the price,
etc... even says "toy storage", although we were going to buy it even if it
didn't say that.). (Or a big laundry basket would work). This is nice because
there is no lid so you don't have any of the dangers associated with a toy
chest and you can use it later in life for other things. Ours is actually
overflowing and we could use a couple more but it is a convient spot to put
the toys (we also use the playpen as storage for some things).
ANSWER: We tried a big bucket for a while (and still use it for some things.)
The problem we found is that invariably the toy she wanted was at the
bottom, so she was always dumping everything on the floor!
Randy built a set of shelves for her, and I bought about 6 translucent
plastic boxes for the little toys. (One hold "little people", another
vehicals, another animals, another crayons, and so on.) Big toys (puzzles, coloring books, games, playsets, etc.) get stacked on the shelves.
At least that's the theory ... in reality the toys pretty much stay
scattered around the house, but at least when I DO do a major clean-up,
there is an organized place to put them.
