Toy Storage

QUESTION:

Toy Storage I have a problem with toys taking over my house. With twin 3 year old boys I have fire trucks, dump trucks, police cars, hot wheels tracks, helicopters, pirate ships, castles. I don't know where to keep everything. Right now I have a huge toy chest in the family room that is too full and the kids can't find anything.
Where do other people keep all the toys?

ANSWER:

I have two philosophies.
1) Take a third of the stuff and put it away in the attic/basement/closet/wherever. In a month (or 2, or whatever you want) bring them back out, and put another third away. They have a renewed interest when they reappear. Obviously, you don't put away the favorites.
2) Before birthdays, Christmas, or other gift receiving times, I go through their toy box and remove things they no longer play with. I then put them up for sale in my MOMs newsletter or donate them to charity. Be tough here. Sort out the things that they don't play with hardly at all. I do the same thing with my bookshelves that get too full. However, I keep some books back because they need something for beginning reading skills.
