Coice of timber for tool storage boxes?
QUESTION:What is the best wood for making storage boxes for micrometers and
other rust prone tools?
All suggestions are welcome, but I would particularly appreciate
recommendations regarding Australian timbers.
Are there any timbers should be avoided?
ANSWER: -Australian Turpentine tree is a good choice as it has natural turpentine in
the sap. Or you could go to teak (which is a tropical rainforest tree) or a
really scarce timber like Huon Pine . These all have natural oils in them. -If your going to do this yourself then you really should go all the way,and
use Mahogony lined with Lebanese Cedar wood, this will leave all of your
friends and co-workers foaming at the mouth. -Q: What is the best wood for making storage boxes for micrometers and
other rust prone tools? A: Don't know, but I will point out that some glues emit nasty solvents when
they're drying, so it's best to let the box air out thoroughly before you
start using it. If the glue hasn't completely dried yet it *might* rust
your tools.
