general storage on mobile
QUESTION:I was wondering if any of these small mobile phones allowed
you to download a stack of data (like a word document or
at least text file) so that you don't need to bring both a PDA
and a mobile phone wherever you go, you can just stick with
a very neat mobile phone. There are some places I go that I just wear a bum-bag rather
than take my entire backpack, and so I only go with wallet,
mobile phone and GPS, meaning I am completely lost if anyone
asks me any questions (like what's your tax file number), which
is normally on a text file on my Psion Series 5.
The GPS allows me to find my way home, so I can get my
Psion/PC, then answer the question, but it would be nice to
be able to do a search of a text file on my mobile. Seems
like an obvious thing to do. I've got all my "important" info
in a single text file, 200k in size. That should be peanuts to
store on a modern device. I wonder what sort of memory
chip my Nokia 5110 uses.
ANSWER: -It doesnt even have a phone book in the phone itself, just whats on
the sim. Easy enough to have more than one sim using a dual sim
adapter and use a large sim just for data storage tho. I currently
use the optus sim that came with the phone, dont use it for anything
but real emergency calls for say when the vodafone network is down
and I want to make a quick call that I'd normally do on the NoPlan sim. It'd be better to use the slut sim for that, but its only a small sim. I've been a bit tempted to go for one of the $300 unlocked 5210s,
which have a decent amount of memory in the phone, and an IR
connection, but its a bit hard to justify just for those added extras. -My T68 will dynamically stores SMSes internally until it runs out of space.
It then stores them on the SIM card (that's what we were talking about
remember?) and uses 160 characters per SMS (or part of a larger one) no
matter what
