Gun Storage Outside of Denver
QUESTION:I'll be travelling to Denver next month, and was wanting to take my
AR-15 along for some shooting in New Mexico on the way back.
Unfortunately, AR-15's aren't exactly welcome in the city or county of
Denver. I don't want to break any laws or "Take my chances." The
penalties are stiff enough that I don't believe it's worth it. Can
anyone give me any ideas on short-term storage outside of denver?
Would a local gunrange provide that kind of service? Could I trust
them? If worst comes to worst, I'll take my SKS (Fixed magazine, thank
you very much) and forget the AR, but I was really hoping to shoot up
some water jugs with my newest toy...
ANSWER: -Yes, Denver is a very politically correct city... full of transplanted
Kalifornians who've brought their hoplophobic baggage with them. The current
Mayor (Wellington Webb) hates firearms.. possibly because his son is in
prison, doing hard time for armed robbery. (If only there had been a waiting
period.. Junior might never have fallen victim to that evil gun!!) But.. I ramble!! Unless you plan on carrying the AR15 around visible-like,
you won't have any problems. Keep it cased, unloaded and in the trunk. -During a recent somewhat nasty "separation", my attorney suggested that I
remove my gun collection from the house. I contacted my range to inquire about
"short term storage", but they informed me that they would have to take "legal
ownership" of the guns. Apparently if ATF paid them a visit, they'd have to
show ownership of every gun on their premises.
