Pricing of DEC storage business?
QUESTION:Would anyone have any estimates of the selling price of the DEC storage
business, should it in fact go up for sale? Would anyone have any
spreadsheet data available on this yet? Would this be expected to be an
all cash sale, or would DEC be thinking about providing any financing on
its sale of businesses. Email on this would be very much appreciated.
ANSWER: I understand the storage business is making money for Digital, and that
their storage devices are comparable to the best ones on the market today,
(please don't respond with more of the stuff about how your devices are
so much better - which seems to be entirely because of the cache you use) so
I'd be somewhat surprised if they sold it - it appears to be one of the
"core competencies" which they should retain.
However I imagine Mr. Palmer or his associates would have lots of information
on the asking price, etc if the business is in fact for sale. If you have
any serious interest in actually buying this business ( as opposed to some
silly attempt to draw attention to your organization ) I suggest you
contact Digital directly to ask these questions. If you have the credibility
to put together a serious offer I'm sure they'd listen.
