DEC storage business for sale

QUESTION:

I understand that there is a big story in the papers today about the DEC storage business being up for sale. However, I haven't actually read the article yet. I think that the price being quoted was something like $400 million.

ANSWER:

Somewhere on the the internet, someone said Quantum was the buyer. One would have expected to hear John's company had bought it, using Robert Allen's real estate acquisition techniques. ; CNBC/FNN announced this morning that the storage business was on the auction block to fund the latest restructuring (de-recruiting). DEC needs cash to pay the packages for the employees being TSFO-ed,
(Transitionary Special Financial Offer, a DEC term for a package). If Quantum is the buyer, maybe they & DEC will agree to support all the SCSI disks that Quantum makes that VMS doesn't recognize without patches to DKDRIVER.
