HIA is AWESOME!!! (photo tinting, storage solutions & more!)
QUESTION:And all I've seen of it has been the new exhibitors and just a couple of the
booths in the scrapbooking area! My most favorite things:
Color Tinting Solution. This is THE ANSWER to tinting black and white
photos, and also enhancing color photos. This stuff is AMAZING.
Apparently, it's been around for YEARS but was only available to
professional photographers and photo restoration individuals. It's
water-based. You can use it wet or dry, but it's better to use it dry so
you can use every bit. You do not have to pre-treat the photograph. You
can use either a matte or a glossy finish photo. The tinting solution is
developed to be absorbed by the photo emulsion layer, and will age at the
same rate as the photo. You use Q-tips dipped in water to tint the photos.
If you get too much of the solution in one place you use a wet Q-tip to draw
up the solution. You can add more solution on top of what you've already
done, wet or dry. I played with this and it is SO easy and SO much fuN!!!
AND, when you're done, and it's dry (in 3-5 minutes instead of hours or days
like the other stuff), you cannot see any surface residue at all whatsoever.
These are going to be kind of costly - $39.99 is MSRP, but in my opinion,
you use so little, that it is well worth the price. They'll last a really
long time, and you can reuse them. Squirt a drop on your palette, let it
dry, and then use it. Don't wash your palette when you're done, you can use
them again. It's hard to do them justice by typing a description, but these
things are AWESOME!!!
You guys have seen modular office furniture. We saw the COOLEST module
furniture I have ever seen. It's designed for US! There's a hanging file
drawer that holds 12x12 paper. There are lots of shallow drawers for stamps
and punches and all kinds of wonderful and fun things. There are great
shelves for holding punches or rubber stamps so you can see them. I took
some pics but haven't had the roll developed yet (haven't finished the roll
yet), but as soon as I can get them developed, I'll post them.
Remember the infamous Doodle Cutter? Well...EK Success bought the idea, and
revamped it, and now it's called the Blade Runner. I played with it today
and it is AMAZING. It works REALLY well. I used it on a block template,
and it was wonderful!
Speaking of lettering templates...there's a new company that is making ALL
kinds of lettering templates! There are some really wonderful ones! So
this is great news for those of us who like to use templates for our
lettering!
Another cool not-really-scrapbook-related thing I found was a color wheel
that has the hexadecimal codes for programming colors in HTML. For example,
to have white text on a page, you have to program the code with #FFFFFF (I
think that's it). If you want salmon pink, for example, there's another 6-character combination that you input into the HTML programming. This
color wheel had the colors and the codes on it! It will save SOOOO much
time picking just the right colors and figuring out what their codes are!
That's not very exciting if you don't do any web programming, but if you
do... http://www.colorwheelco.com/
There are SO many new beautiful papers coming out by so many companies.
There are some really fabulous heritage-type papers that are going to be
available, too. And new stickers that are gorgeous - toooooo much fun
stuff!!!
Good news for those of you that want the "two inch" (measured on the
diagonal) square, which is the largest in the Family Treasures set. FT had
exclusive rights to sell it until December 31, and once that deadline
passed, all of the other punch companies (well, Emagination Crafts and Punch
Bunch, for sure) jumped on the chance to buy and sell these punches. I, for
one, am THRILLED! Emagination Crafts has some really cool border punches
and some really neat large and super-jumbo punches coming out very soon. On
Thursday, I'll post their new 2001 catalog. Jim from Emagination Crafts
gave it to me on CD rom for this very purpose. OOH I am *so* excited
about these punches!!!
I'll let Jeanne & Gigi tell you about the amazing 3-d punch art we saw Leone
from Australia doing at the Punch Bunch booth today! It was GORGEOUS!
Reynolds (yes, the foil people) have come up with crafting foils. These
things are very cool! Holographic foils (which will be great for punching
and very good for your punches, too - it sharpens them) and metallic foils
were two of the products we got to play with when covering a mini notebook
at the make n take workshop we did.
Inspire Me has some gorgeous new stickers & paper coming out. We sat down
and did a make n take, and they came out really nice.
We made a really beautiful card at the Mrs. Grossman's booth. I've already
given mine away, before I even had a chance to scan it! I gave it to my
inlaws as their anniversary card. It was very simple but very beautiful!
There are LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of companies doing paper piecing patterns
now. Some are really sophisticated and elegant, and some are very cute-sy,
but they're all really wonderful! AH, more toys to play with!
Scrapbook Borders has three new volumes coming out in the near future. I
can't remember if volume 3 is out already, I think it may be. Don't wait to
buy these if you like them, because they retire each issue.
That's all I can think of for now, and that's just from six hours at the
show on the first day! I'll go back for 3 hours on Tuesday, and 5 hours on
Wednesday, and will make another report then!
ANSWER: -Color Tinting Solution also has a red eye
solution in their inventory that is so much better than the red
eye pen. Another nice thing about these viles of colored tint is
that you can mix them and get the colors you want.
I was impressed with the furniture but they made it of press
board and don't carry a line of "real" wood.... when you live
with a woodworker.... hee, hee.. need I say more. Hey Joana, I
want copies of your pix.
We saw many wonderful papers... more card companies are coming
out with AF/LF papers.. beautiful! . -I didn't stop by the Coluzzle (Provo Craft) booth on Sunday. I heard from a
very reliable source that they will not be making any more alphabet
templates, but I will confirm with them tomorrow whether or not that's true.
The good news is that Accu-Cut has a similar product to the coluzzles, and
it would surprise me to no end if they didn't develop other alpha templates.
I will provide another report tomorrow!
