Boat storage in Los Angeles, where?
QUESTION:Boat storage in Los Angeles, where?
I am planning to buy a boat in the next week (18" center console
powerboat). I don't have a truck to tow the boat, so I would like to
keep it at a marina where I can drop it in to take it out on the ocean
on the weekends or whenever. Long Beach or Marina Del Rey seem to be
the most logical places.
ANSWER: Don't buy the boat without finding storage first!
When I moved to LA from Florida, I went boat shopping the first week I
was there. I put a deposit on a boat, and went looking for storage,
only to find that what existed was incredibly expensive. Needless to
say, I never did own a boat while I lived there. I was quite shocked
to find there were no High & Dry marina's!! If someone opened a few
of those they'd be a millionaire overnight!!!!!!
You may wish to check the Redondo Beach Pier area, as they have wet
slips there, however they are not covered and the marina is very
small. The also have a cradle lift down there as well. Same goes for
Marina Del Rey.
My highest recommendation would be to look in San Pedro. They have a
rather large marina there and I believe their cost is less than some
of the more "hoity toity" areas. It's also pretty easy to get to, as
the 110 freeway will take you all the way down to the water, thus
avoiding the agonizing drive from the freeway to the coast.
