Building a Storage Server
QUESTION:I noticed that Microsoft has 4 flavors of Storage Server. Does anyone
have a reliable sources to determine which flavors has which features?
It seems that this product is being pushed through OEM channels but
Dell/HP seem to know very little about it.
ANSWER: Storage Server is available via OEMs only.
Express: File sharing only, limited number of HDD & CPUs. IDE & SATA disks only.
Workgroup: Adds printer sharing, SCSI support
Standard: Adds Single Instance Storage & Search. WUDSS edition adds iSCSI target support
Enterprise: Adds Cluster/High Availability support. WUDSS edition available as well.
Also, OEM partners will add various features to their solutions that will
further differentiate - e.g. Built-in fibre support, management, etc.
