QUESTION:Anybody have any experience with self storage, who could offer any
advice/recommendations/warnings? I'm looking to store furniture/books for
a reasonable length of time.
ANSWER: I had to move out of my flat, and now share a funky (ok, crappy) apt in the
mission. I crammed alot of stuff in a lock up and now wonder why, as I pay 85 and
month and 'visit' my stuff once a month and now realize that i could replace most
of it for what I have paid to store it.
I called the SF police about safty and they said there weren't any problems with
breakin's etc. though the place near the Colma Bart said they had problems a
couple years ago, 15 in a year, but 'only' two since, and they lived there?
If you are going to store it while you are traveling, or looking for another place
etc, and have no intention of getting things etc, then there are storage companies
that just stack boxes in a wharehouse and don't charge as much but require two
days notice to retrieve etc. I keep picnic and camping gear in there and go in
and out to get things.
The places open 24 hours are more likely to have security problems. (IMHO)
