I did not see even one energy and metal storage

QUESTION:

I just play a game against 2 ai opponents with all visual ( i.e. I can see all that the ai is doing ). The unit limit is 200 set in the ini file. I notice one thing, the ai does not seem to built Metal and Energy Storages. It builts numerous fusion plants, metal extractors, metal makers, as well well as production plants. Most the time the production plants, I say half, sit idle. There seem to be 1 to1 ratio between facilties units and mobile units. I did not see even one energy and metal storage. I think that without the storage facilities, the ai has a very poor resource management ability. So if it is short of energy or metal it will built additional facilities instead of savings in time of plenty. This lead to over building. Has anyone made this observation and offer possible solutions ?

ANSWER:

I have noted similar play style by the AI. It looks sort of like he has a priority list, and builds the highest priority that current resources allow. I find I get a better game out og the AI if I start with smaller starting metal and energy (for the AI). I use 1000 to 2000 for both. I always start with less than the AI players (usually about have). After I start the game, I set an egg timer for three minutes to five minutes. When it rings, I stop controlling my units/facility for 15 to 20 minutes (on large maps). If the AI doesn't totally wipe me out in that time frame, I ussually have a pretty fun game. I do lose some, but still win over 50% of the time.
