Smartmedia card ..
QUESTION:Where is the industry heading on media storage?
Smartmedia card
Compact Flash
Type I/II Microdrives
Memory stick
ANSWER: -Short term: I think compact flash has the edge over the other format on
capacity and price. Flash memory based CF seems to offer the most choices,
with older cameras being able to use the full capacity of newer cards.
Microdrives, which are a form of CompactFlash card are surprisingly hanging
in there, but eventually they will lose the capacity/price battle.
That said, I would not write off a camera because of it's storage type if it
otherwise has the features you want.
Long term: our cameras will upload directly to the web, with local storage
acting as a buffer. -C.D. storage will die out as a "fad". I think it will settle down to
something like a memory stick or multimedia card with 1 gig of storage, etc.
Or the Japanese will come out with a crystal that beams your photos to your
printer via thought waves
