Temporary Storage Solution
QUESTION:Temporary Storage Solution .
As your typical newbie, I have no idea what to do with this package.
I'd rather not go out and buy some expensive humidor, so I was looking
for a quick, cost effective solution to keep them in fresh order with
decent humidity.
Do you recommend that I stick them in some giant plastic ziplock bag,
or would that be a very dumb thing to do? That's about the only thing
I can think of at the moment. Any ideas?
ANSWER: The best thing to do would be to find a large tupperware container and
put them in there. You'll also need a small humidifying device, and a
digital hygrometer.
The hygrometer can be had for about $20-$30. The humidifier can be the
kind made from green foam in a plastic holder, or you can use what's
called a humitube. A humitibe is a cylinder that contains polymer
crystals that hold a 50/50 mixture of propylene glycol and water, the
same solution you'd use on the foam.
Watch out for over-humidification, though. With no wood to buffer the
humidity, it will tend towards higher humidity. You may find you have
to open it frequently to keep it in the 65 - 70% humidity.
If you over-humidify cigars, your risk burst wrappers, swollen feet,
tighter draws, mold, and sourness.
