I would want my cymbal bag free for
use as a cymbal bag (not a storage unit) for me to carry the essentials
QUESTION:I basically have all my cymbals in my cymbal bag. I'll have my 'current mix'
out of the bag and around my kit for easy swaps. There's two reason I'm
looking for an alternative to storage... On the one hand there is a
possibility of gigging this summer, and I would want my cymbal bag free for
use as a cymbal bag (not a storage unit) for me to carry the essentials; one
or two crashes, one or two rides, pair of hi-hats. The second reason is it
seems me and the guitar have 'inspired' some kids across the street into
starting a band, the 'drummer' being the one whose house is across the
street (at least, I'd never heard ANY of these kids play ANY instrument
until me and the guitar started playing here). Kids these days seem VERY
inspired to do stupid, idiotic things. And my garage is not Fort Knox.
Basically, I could easily see one of these kids straight-up sneaking right
into my garage and stealing stuff. Stuff I might not even notice for months.
Plus my folks leave town every once in awhile, and I'm working 5 or 6 days a
week, and when that happens we have nothing but two cats and a ferret to
guard the place. The ferret, I trust, the cats are a different story. So I'm
looking to store stuff in my closet...
Is the most obvious course the simplest? Buy another cymbal bag?
Too paranoid about the kids?
ANSWER: Speaking of cymbal bags.....
I've been wondering if it matters how you store the bag/cymbals (for maybe a
week at a time). Should you lay them flat (bell up / bell down?)? Should
they be vertical? Can they be leaning? My guess is that it doesn't matter,
but I recently bought some A Custom Projections and they're pretty thin. My
bag has a 21" rock ride, 3 crashes, and a splash, so it's pretty heavy.
