what to use for chemical storage?
QUESTION:what to use for chemical storage?
I am setting up a darkroom in my basement. What can I use to store my
mixed chemicals? Plastic, glass, amber glass?
ANSWER: Some people prefer glass as a precaution towards oxygen diffusion
through the wall of the bottles. As I don't keep my working solutions
for a long time this would not be a problem for me. But I prefer glass
because I found it is much easier to clean (especially in the case of
fixer). A wide neck makes it easier to pour the solution back into the
bottle. Here in our area they sell Wiener sausages, pickles etc in
glass jars which I found extremely convenient for keeping my darkroom
solutions (*). Since you will store your solutions in the darkroom
there is no need for amber or brown glass to protect them from light. (*) There had been a fierce dispute here in this website whether or not to
use containers or bottles for food or beverages for the storage of
chemicals. If you think it's necessary take precautions that nobody
will accidentally take a sip.
