Looking for self-storage companies in the west suburbs who auction off
abandoned storage units.
QUESTION:Looking for self-storage companies in the west suburbs who auction off
abandoned storage units. If anyone has ever participated in these, I'm
also wondering approximately how much the units go for, if they allow
you to look through the contents first, etc.
ANSWER: -I've been to a couple. They usually open the units and sell off the stuff
in lots of 5 to 10 boxes at a time and you don't get to look in the boxes
first. $50 usually takes one lot.
Unboxed, or more valuable stuff goes for more. They are well attended
auctions.
I was amazed at what crap some people pay to store. Boxes of newspapers
for example. -I was told at my storage place that they sell ALL at one time. You do not get
to look in until you win. Kinda like a surprise gift!!
They claimed that someone won one of their auctions that included a large
screen tv, refrigerator, washer & dryer, along with other items for only $110.
You have to move everything that day though so have a truck or a storage unit
available!
So check with each storage facility to see their rules on these auctions.
I would recommend just going and watching to see how it is done.
