Has anyone done something along these lines for cd storage?
QUESTION:I've tired of space consuming and ridiculously fragile "jewel"
boxes for my cd collection, which are stacked in space consuming
wooden racks. I'm going to replace the jewel boxes with plastic
sleeves and rather than use a binder system, I'm seeking to find high
quality plastic storage boxes. To me this seems much easier and
efficient, not to mention space saving and less expensive. Imagine
just being able to browse or flip through hundreds of titles in a bin
and pick out what you want fast and easily.
Has anyone done something along these lines for cd storage?
Where can I find plastic boxes that are sized appropriately for this
purpose (Ideally long and narrow for one row per box, or double rowed
with a "divider" in the center)?
ANSWER: -Surely the Tupperware people have anticipated this need. But what will
you do with the booklets?
Tower has (had -- these things seem to go out of production after a
single run) storage boxes that come with 50 of those thin boxes the
computer guys use for CD-ROMs (but again, the booklet won't fit). -I have a bunch of CD Drawers from Stacksandstacks.com. They're
designed for jewel cases (each unit has 3 CD-sized 12" deep drawers
that hold 23 individual CD cases, i.e. 69 per unit, so they'd probably
hold 200 or so CDs in plastic sleeves). They're not great,
but they're functional and cheap, and would seem to work well for
what you have in mind--better in fact, because
the design stupidly doesn't fit multiple CD jewel cases. (I get
around this by prying out the little plastic tabs, but it's a pain.)
