Does anyone know of a low cost pump that could be solar
powerd (12V) that could be used to circulate water from black storage
drums through a heat exchanger?
QUESTION:Does anyone know of a low cost pump that could be solar
powerd (12V) that could be used to circulate water from black storage
drums through a heat exchanger? I have built a green house with 30
degree slope on the glazed south side and insulated roof, side and back
walls. I would like to store enough heat to keep it from freezing in the
Tennessee winters. Right now the design is like a walk-in solar
collector. I currently have 5 each 55 gal. drums filled with water but
in Jan on a sunny day it gets to over 105 degrees and at night gets down
to about 10 degrees above the outside air temp. I have surmized that
there is not enough surface area with the drums. Therefore my next
thought would be to continually circulate the water through a radiator
to help pick up heat in the day and add to the water and then give it
back up at night. Any help would be appreciated.
ANSWER: FarmFleet carries a 12V pump for $75 it will accept garden hose and the box
says it will carry a 20ft head. Thats not alot but will move water. Empties
a 55gal drum in a couple of minutes through a coiled up 25ft hose.
I'm working on using a drill pump connected to a auto heater motor. Don't
know the head but it will move water through a 25ft hose OK.
