QUESTION:Question on temp in rental storage unit made of concrete
If the temperature outside is in mid to high 90s degree - a city in
CA) , would it be suitable to store the followings?
- matteress and box spring - paid $1800
- female clothes ( some are mademade of silk)
- chest of drawers, night stands, dresser (might take with me if I
can)
- text books
- misc such as vacuum cleaner,
Should I get climate controlled unit instead?
I ahve no idea about the price difference between climate controlled
and nonclimate controlled.
ANSWER: -None of things you mentioned would be affected by heat (that I can tell). I
would not pay extra for climate controlled.

-First of all, how long are these items going to be kept in storage? Is
the storage the type with the roll up garage door in front? The length
of time you are going to store it would have a bearing on how well your
things are going to be after storage.
The silk clothing needs to be cleaned first and packed in acid free
boxes with acid free paper around it. Over time silk clothes on hangers
will deteriorate especially with high heat and if they come in contact
with plastic cleaner bags. 100% cotton bags are better if the clothes
are going to be left on hangers. Hangers should be padded, so you don't
get hanger marks.
Since the mattress is of good quality, I will assume the furniture is
too. If it has any veneers, you will be risking the surfaces drying out
and cracking. Wood needs moisture and regular maintenance.
The other thing I worry about with this kind of storage is bugs. You
will not have any when you move your stuff in, but let's say your
neighbor does and they migrate. Also the problem with rodents.
So if you are storing them for a short time, your things maybe fine.
Over a period of months or years, you may come back to your belongings
not being worth what you paid to have them stored. If your things are
worth being store, I'd pay the extra or go the extra distance to have
them climate controlled
