Portable Storage away from PC
QUESTION:Portable Storage away from PC
Following a disasterous failure of my 1GB Microdrive with all my holiday
images on it, what can users out there recommend for in-the-field portable
storage devices (Nixvue etc) I can d/l images onto after every 20 or so
pics? Most of these devices seem to be ridiculously priced here in the UK,
so I'm keen to get current users points of view on them. I'm also NOT keen
to carry my laptop around with me - my D60 is hefty enough, with a flash and
one extra lens, without the worry of another expensive, heavy to lug around,
item in the hotel room or back of the car!
ANSWER: -I just got a 20 GB Tripper to use with my 10D w/ 256MB CF. 12 oz, USB-2.
US$209. So far so good but haven't used it extensively.

A: I think there really is not good solution. As you say in your comments, the
devices are ridiculously expensive -- and yet you don't want an expensive
laptop to lug around. My solution has been a Macintosh iBook. Although it
may cost more than storage devices, it does more -- I can download images
to it, mess around with them in image processing programs, upload them to a
Website from Internet cafes and the like, and then have a full computer to
use both on the trip and at home.
Having my money in a 'storage device' that lays around at home when I'm
not on a trip seemed to be a poor investment for my needs. Having a full
computer that I not only can store photos on but make notes during the
shooting and during the trip made more sense to me. And the iBook is
not that heftier than the storage only stuff.
