Affordable DLT Storage Cabinets?
QUESTION:Affordable DLT Storage Cabinets?
I am looking for a DLT tape storage solution that can hold at least 240
tapes and costs less than $400. I would appreciate any suggestions on
where to find this.
ANSWER: -At that price, how about a large cardboard box ? Must be a typo...
Check out StorageTek's L700 library. Good value for money, reliable, and if
you ever want to change tape technology, you can use STK 9840 or LTO in the
same library. -other DLT library manufacturers include;
ATL (owned by Quantum, original manufacturer of all DLTs, sort of),
ADIC, Exabyte (also manufacturer of the fastest, market standard
tape drive TODAY, the Mannoth2), Qualstar & Overland (2 smaller niche
companies), Breece Hill (having some problems lately),
Tandberg (has also licensed the right to manufacture DLTs from Quantum) & probably some others that i can't remember -I assume you are talking about shelves, not a jukebox. Even then,
shelving for 240 tapes will cost you more that $400.
The cheapest (and most appropriate for me) was an 80 tape-capacity
unit that is designed to screw to a wall, and "stack". I screwed a
couple into a standard metal floor-standing office supplies cabinet
that I already had.
I got it from Martin-Yale (#219 563-0641). I think the part # is
27354, costs about $170 US. (80 DLT tapes, 240 8MM tapes,
720 CDs, in any combination. A nice, flexible unit.) $400 won;t get you very far, I'm afraid.
